Herbs have been used in magick for several centuries.
Herbs have astral, magnetic and ethereal properties, herbs absorb lunar
magnetism during the night and solar energy during the day, these properties
are released during smudging, incense, etc.
We can use herbs mixed with wax (when producing a candle), use them in
teas for healing, incense, spiritual baths for protection or attraction, smudging
the home to purify energies among more.
We can also seed the herbs and then in a pestle reduce them to magick powders,
or prepare of protective sachets (patuás)
for protection.
Magic baths:
Herbal baths have been a tradition used for thousands of years, from the
Egyptians to the indigenous shaman priests. Herbs are known to have magical
properties, astral magnetism and vibrations that can clear our aura. These
baths are popularly called "discharge baths" or
"discharge", as they discharge negative energy. I tend to simplify
and call them spiritual baths. There are still others to "charge" and
magnetize the aura.

Fumigation/ Smudging:
Smudging herbs at home is a powerful way to clean space, a method used
since ancient times.
To clear the space of negative energies, which appeared as a result of
discussions, emotional experiences, stress, etc., It is best to burn dry herbs
that can destroy negative formations and harmful mental and emotional forms.
Smudging is used to prepare the space for shamanic work, as herbs help
to purify the environment not only from the emotional charge but also from
external influences, coming from someone or from yourself.
Juniper (Juniperus
communis):
Juniper has a strong cleaning potential. The smoke from the burned
juniper needles helps perfectly to deal with otherworldly creatures and
influences and to clean the unfavorable aura in the house.
It can also help a person to remove the evil eye or witchcraft. Prevents
the spread of infectious diseases, cleans and refreshes the air, clarifies the
senses, gives inner strength on days when things are not favorable.
Juniper is the most important attribute that shamans use to smudge a
ritual space or individual in order to purify and contact the spirit world.
Thyme (Thymus vulgaris):
Smudging with thyme calms the nervous system, allows you to find a
solution to a difficult problem, blocks the action of energetic vampires. It
also helps against pests, calms the home spirit, expels poltergeists.
Thyme was used in times of epidemics and to calm frightened children.
Thyme shows its greatest strength in the crescent moon, close to the full moon
phase. The grass has to be harvested in the morning.
Sage (Salvia
officinalis):
Sage is a very strong purifier. Its smoke removes the negative energies
formed as a result of discussions, heavy emotional experiences, cleans the
space, destroys harmful forms, both mental and emotional.
Attracts good luck and prosperity. The herb is used in health rituals,
to acquire wisdom and to improve mental abilities.
The sage smoke removes the negative energies formed as a result of
fights, heavy emotional experiences, restores strength and joy to a person who
has experienced a magickal attack.
St. John's Wort (Hypericum
perforatum):
St. John's wort is an herb that absorbs sunlight, acts immediately on
the entire human body, cleaning it. It helps with depression, fatigue, the
first signs of a cold. The smoke inhalation of St. John's wort is believed to
be very useful for infertility.
The herb opens a person's heart, thus enabling a union of the soul, mind
and body.
With the help of St. John's wort, the house can be protected from
negative energies and attacks from bad people. To clean the house of unwanted
vibrations, it is recommended to smoke all rooms with this herb.
Common wormwood (Artemisia
absinthium):
Smudging with absinthe is able to expel almost all evil spirits from the
home.
In shamanic practices, absinthe is also used for defamation during
preparation for shamanic work, to improve concentration, to open up the
capacity for clairvoyance and to predict the future. Absinthe is also used to
smudge a sick family member, as it perfectly neutralizes negative energy.
If you hang a branch of absinthe on the front door or place it in a
vase, it will be enough to ward off the force of evil and protect your home.
Juniper (Juniperus):
Translated from Mongol it means “medicine against fear” or a magical
sacred plant. It protects a person from the dark entities of evil. Juniper is
used in cleansing rituals.
Shamans and lamas use juniper in their medical practice to restore the
psycho-emotional contour, remove the "evil eye", treat neuroses,
night fears, phobias and other anxiety states.
Rue (Ruta graveolens):
This plant is mainly used to smudging of rooms, as a means to expel evil
spirits, in addition to being used on newborn children. However, large doses of
rue can have a hypnotic effect on humans, this is a plant that some use to open
the “third eye”.
Rue fends off the forces of evil, eliminates the evil eye, plagues and
spells. The herb attracts love.
Harvest in late summer. Take only the upper branches with leaves and
flowers. Tie some branches of rue and dry the packages. Use the dried plant for
purification rituals.
