Materials:
A child's clothing, sugar, 2 white candles. Some sweets (candies).
Instructions:
Take a child's garment and wash as normal. In the last water put the
piece of cloth in a good amount of water (more than a liter) and dissolve a
spoon of sugar in the water. Leave the piece to soak in this water and light
two white candles asking Saint Cosmas and Damian to calm the child and bring
more docility. When the candles are finished burning, twist the clothes and let
them dry normally. Give the child to use without saying anything.
You can repeat it weekly with different pieces of clothing until the
child calms down.
The remains of candles and candies leave in a garden, as an offering.
Why is it that in Afro-Brazilian spells Saints Cosmas and Damian are represented as children, and we offer sweets?
On the internet if you search for Cosmas and Damian you will find an image of two adult saints.
Saints Cosmas and Damian, twin brothers, died around AD 300. They are believed to have been doctors, and their sanctity is attributed to the reason that they practiced medicine without charge, devoted to the faith.
But in Umbanda, they were syncretized as infantile spiritual entities (ibejis or erês).
